It took a long time to decide on a trading name for my work counselling in Kent, so why “Opis”? After chatting it over with a friend, I was inspired by the Roman goddess Opis of growth and abundance.
Her name is also connected to the word “opus”, meaning “work”, especially in the agricultural sense. I liked the image of the seeds we plant today, carefully tended, giving us plenty in time to come. Counselling is work, but I believe the personal growth and rewards which result are very much worth it.
The agricultural image seemed appropriate for Kent – a county called “The Garden of England” (although other counties also claim the title!) with its long history of agricultural production.
